गोरखा जिल्लाको मनकामना गा.वि.स.का १, ३ र ४ वडाको सिमानामा कफेक डाँडा छ । त्यहीँ प्रसिद्ध मनकामनाको मन्दिर अवस्थित छ । मनकामनालाई गोरखालीहरूकी इष्टदेवीका रूपमा लिने गरिन्छ । मनले चिताएको कुरा पु¥याउने मनकामना मन्दिरमा पुग्नका लागि हाल मुगलिनछेउबाट केबलकारको व्यवस्था गरिएको छ । मनकामनाको उत्पत्तिका सम्बन्धमा एउटा किंवदन्ती पाइन्छ । त्यस अनुसार, राजा राम शाहकी एउटी रानी सधैं रातको समयमा बेपत्ता हुने र दिउँसो मात्र देखा पर्ने गर्दथिन् । राम शाहले त्यसको रहस्य पत्ता लगाउन लखन थापालाई खटाएछन् । रानीको पछि लागी रहस्य पत्ता लगाउन हिंडेका लखन थापाले एक पटक रानीलाई हालको मनकामना मन्दिर भएको कफेक डाँडामा सिंहमाथि चढेकी साक्षात् देवी भगवतीका रूपमा देखेछन् । ती देवीले लखन थापालाई ‘तिमीले मेरो रहस्य थाहा पायौ, अब मलाई यहाँ स्थापना गरी मेरो पुजारी तिमी नै बस्नू’ भनिछन् । त्यसपछि लखन थापा मनकामनाको पुजारी भई बसेछन् ।

वास्तवमा मनकामना गोरखाको दक्षिणी किल्लामा रहेकी देवीका रूपमा परिचित छन् । यहाँ मगरहरू नै पुजारी हुने गर्दछन् । मनकामनाको ख्याति नेपालमा मात्र नभएर विश्वका विभिन्न क्षेत्रहरूमा फैलिएको छ । यहाँ सालैभर दर्शनार्थी र पर्यटकहरूको घुइँचो लाग्ने गर्दछ । मन्दिर नेपाली तले शैलीमा निर्मित छ । मन्दिरको गर्भमा रहेकी देवीलाई पशुबलि दिएर पूजाआजा गर्ने गरिन्छ । पहिलेको पैदल यात्राको विकल्पमा पृथ्वी राजमार्गबाट केबलकार चढी १०–१२ मिनेटकै अवधिमा पुग्न सकिने हुनाले अचेल मनकामना मन्दिरको ख्याति अझ बढेर गएको हो ।

The Manakamana Temple is situated on the top of the hill named Kaphed in Manakamana VDC, Gorakha District. Because she is a goddess believed to have powers to fulfil the wishes of her devotees she is extremely popular, not only among the residents of Gorkha but the entire country.

According to legend, King Ram Shah, concerned with the disappearance of his queen every night, ordered a courtier named Lakhan Thapa to investigate her nocturnal activities. While doing so Lakhan Thapa saw the queen riding on the back of a lion and immediately recognized her divinity. Upon being aware of his presence the Goddess ordered the courtier to build a temple in her honour.

He followed the order and established the temple and became its first priest. The temple is a very popular destination, and the ease of accessibility by cable car from the Prithivi Highway means that it is generally crowded throughout the year with devotees. The temple itself is constructed in the typical Nepali multi-roof style, and a great number of animals are sacrificed here to the Goddess.
