वागेश्वरी मन्दिर बाँके जिल्लाको नेपालगन्ज बजारको बीचभागमा पर्दछ । यहाँ नेपालका विभिन्न भाग र भारतबाट समेत तीर्थयात्रीहरू आइरहने गर्दछन् । यस मन्दिर भेगमा सती देवीको जिब्रो पतन भएको मानिन्छ । यही जनविश्वासका आधारमा स्थानीय बासिन्दाहरू वागेश्वरीप्रति निकै आस्था राख्दछन् । वागेश्वरीमा वर्षमा एक पटक सरकारी पूजा र दुई पटक महायज्ञ गर्ने चलन छ । यज्ञमा खिचडी पकाएर भक्तहरूलाई बाँड्ने गरिन्छ ।

वागेश्वरीको उत्पत्तिका सम्बन्धमा स्थानीय बासिन्दाहरूमा प्रचलित किंवदन्ती अनुसार, अघि कुनै समयमा काठमाडौंमा पशुपतिनाथको दर्शन गर्न गएका जोगीहरू फिरेर आउँदा यही स्थानमा बास बसेछन् । त्यस रात सपनामा देवीले ती जोगीहरूलाई एउटा खाल्टो देखाउँदै ‘मेरो जिब्रो यहीं पतन भएको हो’ भनिछन् । भोलि पल्ट ती जोगीले देवीको जिब्रो पत्ता लगाएछन् र त्यहीँ देवीको भव्य मन्दिर बनाएछन् । यसरी वागेश्वरी देवीको स्थापना भएको मानिन्छ ।

वागेश्वरी भेगमा विभिन्न प्रकारका धार्मिक, ऐतिहासिक र पर्यटकीय क्षेत्रहरू पनि छन् । गणेश, हनुमान्, रामजानकी, राधाकृष्ण र सन्तोषीमाताका मठमन्दिर र मूर्तिहरूसमेत छन् । यहाँ जुंगे महादेवको भव्य मूर्ति छ । जुँगे महादेवको मूर्ति नेपालमा अन्त कतै छैन ।

The temple of Bageshwori is located in the central part of Nepalganj Bazaar, and it is believed to have been built after a group of yogis resting here on their way to Lord Pashupatinath in Kathmandu dreamt of Sati Devi telling them that it was here that her tongue fell off and that it could be found inside a pit close by. The next day the yogis found the tongue of the goddess just as she'd described it, and later a temple was built in her honour.

Besides the Bageshwori Temple, the area is also famous for the statue of a moustached Shiva and the temple of Ganesh that houses an idol of the deity in a standing pose. Along with these are also present the temples of Hanuman, Ramjanaki, Radhakrishna, and Santoshimata.

A large number of pilgrims visit Bageshwori each year, particularly during Teej and Shivaratri festivals.
