काठमाडौंको कमलादीमा गणेशको प्रसिद्ध मन्दिर छ, जसलाई सेतो गणेश भन्ने गरिन्छ । यो मन्दिर कमलादीमा भएकाले यसलाई कमलादी गणेश पनि भन्ने गरिएको हो । यिनको पूजा–उपासना परापूर्वकालदेखि नै हुने गरेको छ । स्थानीय बासिन्दाहरू सन्तानप्राप्तिको उद्देश्यले यिनको पूजाआजा गर्ने गर्दछन् । राजा पृथ्वीवीरविक्रम शाहले पनि यिनै गणेशको उपासना गरेपछि त्रिभुवनलाई जन्म दिएको विश्वास गरिन्छ । त्यही समयदेखि नेपालका राजाहरूले यिनको निरन्तर रूपमा पूजाआजा गर्दै आएका थिए । कमलादी गणेशको उत्पत्तिका सम्बन्धमा एउटा किंवदन्ती पाइन्छ । त्यस अनुसार, धेरै अघि कमलादी भेगमा खेत मात्र थियो, बस्ती बसेको थिएन । एक चोटि खेतीका क्रममा बीचमा सेतो प्रस्तर फेला परेछ । किसानहरूले त्यसलाई गणेश भगवान् मानेर पूजाआजा गरेछन् । त्यसपछि उनीहरूले ती गणेश काठमाडौं उपत्यकाका पीठहरूका विनायक हुन् भन्ने थाहा पाएछन् । कमलादी गणेशका लागि राजेन्द्रविक्रम शाह लगायतका राजा र अन्य भक्तहरूले पनि मन्दिर निर्माण र त्यसको जीर्णोद्धार गरेको विवरण पाइन्छ । यसबाट यो मन्दिरको भव्यतामा अभिवृद्धि हुँदै गयो । विशेष गरी मंगलबार यी गणेशको दर्शन गर्न भक्तजनहरूको भीड लाग्ने गर्दछ ।
The Kamaladi Ganesh -- also known as White Ganesh -- is the most popular Ganesh temple in Kathmandu Valley. It is believed to have been founded after a white rock shaped like the Lord Ganesh was found in the paddy fields where the temple now lies. Later on it was discovered that the idol was one of the Pitha Ganeshas of the Kathmandu Valley. The temple today is a richly ornamented structure that has undergone many renovations over the years.
It is believed that King Prithivibirbikram prayed to this deity for the birth of a son, and when King Tribhuvan was subsequently born the tradition began of worshipping at the temple so as to be blessed with children. The temple is extremely busy on Tuesdays, to the point that the entire area wears a festival atmosphere then.
