The temple of Palpa Bhairav, better known as Kal Bhairav of Palpa, lies aboutten kilometres West of Tansen Bazaar. The ruins of the royal palace of King Mukunda Sen of Palpa is found near the temple, and it is believed that the temple was established by him. One version of the story states that the idol was brought from Kashi in India, while another states that Mukunda Sen brought it back with him after his attack on the Kathmandu Valley. The temple itself is a simple structure situated in a courtyard. Nobody besides the priest is allowed to look upon the idol proper, and a replica of the head is kept for the devotees to worship. The priest himself belongs to the Nath sect of Saivists resident at the Ratannath temple in the Dang Valley. Thousands of pilgrims flock to the temple during Navaratra with their offerings of animals -- primarily buffaloes and goats -- and rot, a kind of rice cake.
पाल्पाको पुरानो राजधानी तानसेनदेखि करिब १० किलोमिटर दूरीमा भैरवस्थान गाउँमा काल भैरवको मन्दिर छ । यही स्थानमा सेनराजा मुकुन्द सेनको दरबार पनि छ । यहाँको भैरवस्थान पाल्पाली सेनराजा मुकुन्द सेनले स्थापना गराएको मानिन्छ । यहाँका भैरव काशीबाट र काठमाडौं उपत्यकाबाट ल्याइएका भन्ने दुई प्रकारका धारणा पाइन्छन् । तसर्थ मुकुन्द सेनले यहाँका भैरवको मूर्ति भने अन्यत्रबाटै ल्याएर यहाँ प्रतिष्ठापन गराएको स्पष्ट हुन्छ । पाल्पाको काल भैरव मन्दिर सामान्य प्रकारको तले शैलीमा निर्मित छ । यसभित्र रहेको पुरानो भैरवको मूर्ति कसैले पनि हेर्न हुँदैन भन्ने जनविश्वास छ । तसर्थ सर्वसाधारणलाई दर्शनका लागि भैरवको एउटा मुकुन्डो मन्दिरको एक तलामाथि राखिएको छ । सर्वसाधारणले हेर्न नहुने भनिएको मूर्ति भने मन्दिरको तल्लो तलामा राखिएको मानिन्छ । काल भैरव मन्दिरका पुजारीमा नाथपन्थी जोगीहरू छन् । यी जोगीलाई दाङको रतननाथ मन्दिरबाट ल्याउने र पुजारीको काममा लगाउने गरिन्छ । जोगीहरू पुजारी भएकैले पाल्पा भैरवलाई रोट चढाइन्छ । यहाँ शनिबार धेरै ठूलो संख्यामा पशुबलि दिने प्रचलन छ । भैरवस्थानमा दशैंको समयमा ठूलो मेला लाग्ने गर्दछ । अन्य समयमा पनि यहाँ भैरवको दर्शन गर्न टाढाटाढादेखिका भक्तालुहरू आउने गर्दछन् । यहाँ अन्य देवीदेवताका मूर्तिहरू पनि छन् । काल भैरव मन्दिरमा अखण्ड बत्तीसमेत छ । यहाँको बत्ती निभे धुनीबाट सल्काउनुपर्ने र त्यो पनिनिभेमा काँगडा ज्वाला या दुल्लुको ज्वालाबाट आगो ल्याएर सल्काउनुपर्ने नियम छ ।
