The Maulakalika Temple lies in Gaidakot Adarsha VDC, Navalparasi District. According to legend, the Palpali King Mukunda Sen had originally built a royal palace on the site, which later on became an important fort defending the South-Eastern border of the kingdom. In the beginning a wooden pillar of the fort was worshipped as Maulo, another name for the Goddess Kali. When the region became an important centre of Gadhi the name of Kali was given

to the pillar. The old temple was completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1934 AD. A resident of Gaidakot named Kashinath Paudel then rebuilt it. The rebuilt temple is constructed in the pagoda style but utilizes cement and sand instead of wood. A guest house, dharmashala, a waiting hall, and temples of Krishna and Ganesh are now found within the compound of the temple.
